Unique Identification Authority of India

Unique Identification Authority of India:

UIDAI is the Registrar of Identities i.e. it registers, assigns and verifies the unique identities. It is supposed to register two types of unique identities:

·         Residents of India (called Aadhaar)

UIDAI has made progress on Aadhaar Number only. Work on UID is yet to be published.

However, UID has been provisioned within 12-digit UID number system. UID is supposed to produce the similar effect as Aadhaar for corporate entities i.e. identification and traceability of transactions. It is supposed to bring transparency on financial transactions, donations, and to prevent corruption.

A few good reasons to enroll for Aadhaar :

Aadhaar can be used as Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) anywhere in India. Some of the benefits that can be availed using Aadhaar are:
Train travel (POI)
Mobile connection (POI and POA)
New LPG connection (POI and POA)
Bank Account (POI and POA)
Casting vote (POI)
Passport (POI and POA)
Driving license (POI and POA)
Ration Card (POI and POA)
